Honestly, this seems to be geared towards new players that might be interested. It could be what the game needs to boost itself up in the player base aspect. Seeing as it got dropped between two of the biggest and well known games, this might actually help. Now with the announcement of the ultimate edition and a lull in new games right now, assuming it's not crazily priced (I couldn't find a price anywhere) the franchise might get more of a following. It definitely is not for players that are already in the game, which is ok since it's meant to give a boost to those who might want in on the action. Respawn isn't trying to get old players to buy it again, they know we already love it. Are we sure that's the reason it's not popular?Yes. The game itself is great.

The single player story was great, the multiplayer is amazing, and the game even reviewed well. It was a huge timing and marketing issue. Both of these things were handled by the publisher, EA.But even if that was the case where they are similar games, what's the explanation for people not picking up the game now?Player population issues, game age, and lack of marketing I imagine. That being said, people are still picking it up. The player count is increasing slowly. It dropped, fast.

Especially on PC.How fast? Fast as in when CoD, the largest FPS franchise, came out literally a week later?Even on launch day there were a few playlists that had next to no players. If that's the case, then it's a marketing issue. That implies that people didn't buy the game to begin with rather than try the game and decide it wasn't good.A lot of people, including myself and my friend group, were playing Battlefield 1 instead.Maybe, people just didn't like the game as muchThat still doesn't explain how well the game reviewed then. Fast as in when CoD, the largest FPS franchise, came out literally a week later?Dunno, I don't play CoD, but I don't know why it's life compared to other games matters. But iirc TF2 only had several thousand people playing on pc not long after launch. I was pretty much reduced to play Attrition at peak hours within the first month.

Not that I played the game much longer than that anyway. If that's the case, then it's a marketing issue. That implies that people didn't buy the game to begin with rather than try the game and decide it wasn't good.Or people just didn't like the game and didn't want to buy it.

Or, they just stopped playing. The numbers at launch weren't completely terrible and if those people had stuck around the game would have a big enough playerbase to play the game fine, aside from maybe 1 or 2 modes. But they didn't, most people left until the game had 1000-3000 concurrent players (on PC).I don't think there is a single reason why everyone left. For me, they took everything I liked about the first game and pretty much fucked it up. But there are others who liked the changes who would have stopped for other reasons. That still doesn't explain how well the game reviewed then.I've seen countless complaints about the game, just as much as I've seen praise. Like you said, CoD died pretty fast too, yet it had praise from reviewers. If the game really was that good, people would be sticking around while new people would be joining. But people aren't sticking around.

That isn't a launch issue.Hell the first game wasn't much different and it didn't even launch at a bad time. There was massive hype around this new IP from the creators of MW. It sold far better than the 2nd game. But people still didn't stick around.

It died just as fast as the 2nd game. Most people just didn't find it interesting enough to stick around. Which is unfortunate because I'd probably still be playing it today if it had regular updates and an active playerbase. I can hope TF3 is good. Treasure adventure game soundtrack.
