Initially announced in 2009 as Thief 4, it was later announced in 2013 that the game is a reboot for the series.The game is set in 'The City', a world inspired by, and aesthetics. Players control, a master thief who embarks on several missions focusing on stealing from the rich. Players may approach in a variety of different ways; players can choose the action oriented and lethal approach, where players will disable or kill enemies on their way to their destination, using knives and takedowns, or opt for the non-lethal stealthy approach, where players minimize interaction with NPCs and the environment in order to avoid detection. Players also may choose which path to take to their destination, as each location contains several branching paths.Upon release, the game received a mixed critical reception, with critics praising its replay value and stealth gameplay, but criticizing the map layout and story.

Submitted on Review title of x Horrus xa great gameA really great game, quite well made with plenty of side missions to last a while, especially if you go after those achievements. I've played all 3 Thief games on my xbox over the years and this one is the best and so it should be. You can play this on easy or hard, and if you like stealth and stealing plenty of loot ( in video games, I mean ), you'll have heaps of fun. Some might see the game story not so great perhaps, but I quite liked it.

Were there frustrations? Absolutely, particularly the city being divided by loading screens in the most bizarre and counterintuitive fashion. Nevertheless, finding all of its little secrets is a complete joy. The story arc rather sucks, but npc dialogue and found notes are very well written and performed.

Fans miss Stephen Russell but the new Garrett is easy to listen to. People have forgotten the negative reception Deadly Shadows received from fans, but if you love Deadly Shadows as much as I do then there is just as much to love here. The Hammerites and Pagans are conspicously absent, but the joy of thieving and the joy of unravelling a labyrinth are here in spades. The graphics are nice, and the gamplay is fluid. With all the stealth clones out now, it is good to see a return to the roots. I thouroughly enjoyed all entries in this series amd would love to see a bundle with The Dark Project, The Metal Age and Deadly Shadows come to the Xbox.

Thief is a game that will ever be one of my favorites, for that simple fact that its all about avoiding detection and combat. Combat is a last resort and should be handled as such. I have seen a few games that have tried to duplicate what Thief has done gameplay wise, but you can never outclass a grand daddy in this genre, Garrett will see to that!
